Conway Reaches 100 Wins as GA Continues Strong Play

The Gilmour Academy girls prep hockey team had its second straight strong performance in a major event as the team competed at the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) this past weekend.

The Lancers went 3-1 in the event to continue their recent run of good form as Gilmour is now 11-1-1 in its last 13 games. Gilmour's recent success helped propel head coach Seanna Conway to her 100th career win at the school.

Gilmour played four games over three days at the NIT. The tournament took place at the Super Rink at National Sports Center, the largest ice arena complex in the world, in the suburbs of Minneapolis.

Gilmour began the event with a setback to Minnesota Elite Tradition Vegas on Friday morning, the team's first loss since Sept. 24.

However, the Lancers were not dismayed. They rebounded by winning their final three games of the event by a combined 12 goals.

Gilmour came back Friday afternoon and took down Team Wisconsin 6-1. Alaina Giampietro '22 had a hat trick to lead Gilmour and earned the team's Hard Hat Award for the game. Ziya Damas '23, Maggie Dean '22 and Emma Pickering '23 each scored once in the win while Maggie Hatch '21 and Katie Spindel '23 split the win in goal.

Gilmour's lone game Saturday was a 3-0 victory over Dallas Stars Elite. Cailin Schwarzer '22 scored a goal and earned the team's Hard Hat Award. Allison Carson and Kaitlyn Schooley '22 each added a goal while Hatch posted the shutout in goal.

The Lancers closed out the tournament with a 5-1 victory over the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals that featured a balanced offensive attack. Carson, Giampietro, Isabel Goolie '23, Pickering and Isabella Sprang '21 each found the net once. Sprang, who added two assists, earned the Hard Hat Award while Hatch and Spindel again split time in goal during the win.

Gilmour will compete at a second straight high-profile tournament this weekend as the Lancers head to the Two Nations College Prep event outside Detroit.
