Gilmour Wins 2 Nations Tournament

Gilmour Wins 2 Nations Tournament

The Gilmour Academy girls prep hockey team concluded a fantastic second month of the season by winning a major tournament this past weekend.

The Lancers brought home the 2 Nations College Prep title by posting a 5-0 record at the event held at the Taylor Sportsplex in suburban Detroit.

Gilmour began the weekend with what proved to be its closest game of the tournament as it took on Northwood School's Prep team.

Gilmour got out of the gates quickly as Alaina Giampietro '22 scored just 31 seconds into the game off an assist from Kaitlyn Schooley '22. Giampietro scored again late in the second period with Isabella Sprang '21 providing the assist.

Northwood scored twice in the third period to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Giampietro played the role of hero for the Lancers as she posted an unassisted tally in the extra session to complete her hat trick and lift GA to a 3-2 victory to start the event.

Maggie Hatch '22 made 22 saves in the win for Gilmour.

Gilmour came back Friday afternoon and claimed a 3-0 win over Dallas Stars Elite.

Sophie Healey '23 scored the opening goal in the second period with Allie Carson and Emma Pickering '23 providing assists.

Alyssa Kraig '23 and Giampietro both added insurance goals in the third period. Kraig's was assisted by Sprang and Giampietro while Giampietro's goal was assisted by Sophia Johnson '23 and Pickering.

Hatch registered a 26-save shutout in the victory.

Gilmour was downright dominating in its two games Saturday. It posted a 6-0 victory over the San Jose Jr. Sharks in the morning and a 5-0 win over the K-Stars in the afternoon, with Hatch registering both shutouts.

Cailin Schwarzer '22 led the way against San Jose by tallying a hat trick for Gilmour. Giampietro, Schooley and Sprang each added a goal in the win while Carson, Ziya Damas '23, Isabel Goolie '23 and Taylor Stirling '22 added assists.

Giampietro and Pickering led the offensive effort against the K-Stars as the former had one goal and two assists while the latter scored twice. Schwarzer and Sprang each scored once in the win while Goolie and Schooley each added an assist.

By virtue of their unbeaten mark in pool play, Gilmour qualified for the tournament championship, a single-game contest held Sunday morning.

Gilmour's goal prevention continued to be exquisite as it scored once in each frame to claim a 3-0 victory over the Chicago Young Americans.

Maggie Dean '22 opened the scoring courtesy of Goolie and Alexandra Brandt '22. Pickering would score once in both the second and third periods, with the first tally being assisted by Kraig.

Hatch made 28 saves to earn the shutout, the last of her four consecutive shutouts to close the tournament.

While the first-place finish was a first for Gilmour in a tournament this season, the team has been winning consistently for quite some time now. The Lancers will enter November on an eight-game winning streak and holding a mark of 16-1-1 in their past 18 games.

Gilmour will take the upcoming weekend off from competition after contesting major tournaments on each of the past two weekends.
