Lancers Sweep Belle Tire, Extend Win Streak to 10

The Gilmour Academy girls prep hockey team continued its run of excellent form by sweeping a series from Belle Tire at the Floyd E. Stefanski Ice Center this past weekend.

With the two wins, Gilmour has now won 10 consecutive games, their longest winning streak during head coach Seanna Conway's tenure.

Gilmour scored the winning goal in the third period in both games this past weekend.

Trailing 1-0 after two periods in Friday night's series opener, Alaina Giampietro '22 came to the rescue for the Lancers.

Giampietro scored a power-play goal to tie the game in which she expertly deflected a shot from the blue line. The strike was assisted by Kaitlyn Schooley '22 and Cailin Schwarzer '22. A few minutes later, Giampietro brought the puck into the offensive zone while Gilmour was shorthanded. She then unleashed a laser of a wrist shot from near the left faceoff dot to provide the winning goal.

The two teams played another low-scoring affair in the second game Saturday morning as neither team had scored through two periods.

Early in the third period, Alexandra Brandt '22 intercepted a clearance attempt by the guests and blasted a low shot past the goaltender. Sophie Healey '23 added an insurance goal with under two minutes to play as she batted home a loose puck from close range.

Maggie Hatch '22 tallied the shutout in goal for Gilmour and earned both wins on the weekend.

During their 10-game winning streak, the Lancers have outscored their opposition by a combined 38-5 and have registered six shutouts. Gilmour now stands at 22-6-1 overall.

The Lancers have a busy weekend ahead as they travel to Culver Academy before returning home to welcome Team Illinois.
