- The Gilmour Academy girls prep hockey team defeated Culver Academy 2-1 this past weekend to win the Mid-American District title
- The game took place at the Baierl Ice Complex's World Rink in Warrendale, Pa.
- By virtue of capturing their district title, the Lancers automatically qualify for the USA Hockey National Tournament
- Gilmour killed off two penalties in the opening period to keep the game scoreless after the first frame
- Ziya Damas '23 opened the scoring in the first minute of the second period
- Culver tied the game with a power-play goal about five minutes later
- Alaina Giampietro '22 scored fewer than two minutes later to put GA back on top
- Giampietro's goal, assisted by Alyssa Kraig '23, proved to be the game-winner
- Gilmour held on down the stretch, aided by 21 saves from goaltender Maggie Hatch '22
- As the final buzzer sounded, the Lancer bench erupted as equipment was thrown about with teammates mobbing one another
- The 2022 USA Hockey Nationals will feature 16 teams and take place March 31 – April 4 in Pittsburgh
- Gilmour will contest three round-robin games against opponents that have yet to be determined
- The Lancers will close the regular season this weekend as they host the HTI Stars Friday while celebrating Senior Day
- Gilmour will then face Northwood School Prep on Sunday in the North American Prep Hockey Association West Division championship game
