Burkey Tallies First Career Win

First-year head varsity coach Gretchen Burkey tallied her first-career victory leading the Gilmour Academy girls lacrosse team as the Lancers opened their season this past week.

After suffering a setback to Kenston High School in their season opener, Burkey led the Lancers to a convincing win over visiting Villa Maria Academy this past weekend.

Gilmour claimed an 18-6 win over Villa Maria as 11 different Lancers found the back of the net. Midfielder Molly Boyle '21 and attacker Sophie Hammond '22 each had a hat trick while a pair of defenders—Liv Busby '22 and Kaitlyn Schooley '22—each scored once.

Boyle, attacker Ava Moe '21, and midfielder Isabella Sprang '21 each posted an assist. Gilmour posted 19 caused turnovers as a team against the Victors.

In the season-opening loss to Kenston, Boyle and attacker Sadie Morley '23 each scored a pair of goals.

Similar to their varsity counterparts, Gilmour's junior varsity team bounced back from a season-opening loss with a victory on the weekend.

After a 6-3 loss to Kenston to open the season, the JV squad pushed past Brunswick with a 9-8 road triumph.

Midfielder Anna Lisac '24 had a huge game for the Lancers, scoring five goals, snatching five draw controls and adding five ground balls. Attacker Kelly McFadden '23 contributed four goals while playing in her first-ever lacrosse game.

The Lancers' two games this past week were the start of a 15-game varsity schedule that is set to conclude May 11. The OHSAA Tournament will then begin in mid-May.
