Lancers Push Win Streak to Four

The Gilmour Academy varsity girls lacrosse team went 2-0 for a second straight week as the squad closed the month of April on a four-game winning streak.

The Lancers began the week with a convincing 15-3 victory over Beaumont School, their third consecutive victory by a double-digit margin.

Gilmour scored five times in the opening 12 minutes in the win over the Blue Streaks. The Lancers opened up a commanding 10-0 lead by halftime and easily cruised to the victory.

Midfielder Molly Boyle '21 led the way for Gilmour. She had a game-high four goals along with an assist and six draw controls. Fellow midfielder Isabella Sprang '21 notched three goals and an assist in the win.

Sophia Garofalo '21, Meaghan Stack '21 and Alayna Toole '22 each had two goals on the day with Garofalo contributing seven ground balls.

Goaltenders Madeline Boyle '23 and Ziya Damas '23 posted seven and five saves, respectively, to combine for the win in goal.

After three comfortable wins in succession, Gilmour faced a much tougher test when it hit the road later in the week. After battling into a second overtime period, Gilmour prevailed with a thrilling 10-9 win at Solon High School.

Defender Kaitlyn Schooley '22 caused a turnover in the second overtime session and proceeded to score the game-winning goal. She also added six ground balls in the win.

Garofalo and Stack led the offense with two goals apiece against the Comets. The former added six draw controls and four ground balls while the latter notched three assists and three ground balls.

Madeline Boyle and Damas again combined for the win, with each posting four saves in the cage.

The win over the Comets was the third straight road win for Gilmour.

Gilmour's junior varsity team won its lone contest of the week over Beaumont as its scheduled game with Solon was postponed.

The Lancers and the Blue Streaks each scored twice over the opening 15 minutes of the contest. Gilmour's defense and goaltending then took over as the Lancers scored seven times without reply over the final 35 minutes of the game, leading the Lancers to a 9-2 victory.

Lyla Bauman '23, Alyssa Kraig '23, Kelly McFadden '23 and Grace Stirling '24 each scored twice in the win. Madeline Boyle (four saves) and Claire Thielman '24 (six saves) combined for the win in goal.

The JV's win over Beaumont moved to the team's record to 5-1-1 on the season.
