Senior Day Victory Part of Three-Win Week for Lancers

The Gilmour Academy varsity girls lacrosse team celebrated its senior class in style this past week as the Lancers defeated Padua Franciscan High School 13-3 on Senior Day.

The Senior Day victory was part of three consecutive wins to end a busy week that saw the Lancers play four games in six days.

Gilmour actually began the month with its lone loss of the week as it dropped a 21-14 decision to Saint Joseph Academy. The final score was a tad misleading as the game was actually tied with fewer than 13 minutes to play in regulation, but a late surge from the Jaguars allowed them to prevail.

Molly Boyle '21, Sophia Garofalo '21, Sadie Morley '23 and Lyla Tsu '23 each had a hat trick in the setback. Boyle reached double digits in the draw control category while adding two assists and two caused turnovers.

Gilmour bounced back the very next day, claiming an emphatic 16-5 win over Orange High School.

The Lancers scored the first half dozen goals of the game against the Lions with six distinct goal scorers contributing to the tally. Gilmour pushed its lead to 11-1 by halftime and cruised to the win.

Ava Moe '22 led the offense with three goals and two assists while Alayna Toole '22 tallied two goals and three helpers. Madeline Boyle '23 and Ziya Damas '23 combined for the win in goal for GA.

After a day off Wednesday, Gilmour registered its second straight double-digit win in its final home game of the week on Thursday. Prior to the game, Gilmour recognized seven seniors for their contributions to the program and school: Molly Boyle '21, Sophia Garofalo '21, Hadley Hairston '21, Brynn Hillard '21, Laya Saleh '21, Isabella Sprang '21 and Meaghan Stack '21.

With all seven seniors starting, Gilmour scored the first six goals of the contest. Molly Boyle, Garofalo and Sprang, a trio of seniors, scored the opening three tallies for the hosts. Gilmour led 9-1 at halftime and scored the final four goals of the game to maintain its lead.

Molly Boyle had a strong all-around performance on Senior Day, posting three goals, two assists, five draw controls, six ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Garofalo had two goals, three draw controls and nine ground balls while Sprang contributed two goals, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Stack finished with six ground balls and four caused turnovers for the Lancers.

Madeline Boyle and Damas each made four saves in the cage during the win.

Gilmour made a long road trip to conclude the week, traveling to Villa Maria Academy in Erie, Pa., but the Lancers were not fazed and claimed a 15-7 win.

Sprang tallied three goals and two assists while Maddie Fitzpatrick '22 also had a hat trick.

Molly Boyle scored twice and collected five draw controls while adding an assist. Garofalo notched two goals, seven draw controls and four caused turnovers.

Madeline Boyle and Damas combined for 10 saves in goal in the win.

Similar to the varsity squad, the junior varsity team began its week with a setback but rallied to close the week strong.

The JV team began with a 7-6 loss to Saint Joseph Academy. Madeline Boyle kept Gilmour in the game by making 12 saves while Lyla Bauman '23 and Alyssa Kraig '23 each scored twice.

Gilmour bounced back the following day by posting a 14-4 win over Orange. Kraig and Anna Lisac '24 each had four goals and four draw controls in the game while combining for 11 ground balls between them.

The JV squad closed the week with a true team effort in a 9-2 victory at Villa Maria.

Eight different Lancers—Bauman, Veronica Khula '23, Kraig, Lisac, Kelly McFadden '23, Truesdale Pyle '23, Grace Stirling '24 and Caroline Thomas '24—found the net during the win. Lisac scored twice and added three draw controls and three ground balls.

The win at Villa Maria lifted the JV's record to 7-2-1 with one week left in their season.
