Lancers Cruise Past SVSM in Postseason Opener

The Gilmour Academy girls lacrosse team opened postseason play with one of their best performances of the season before the Lancers succumbed to the top seed in their region in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

By virtue of its regular-season performance, Gilmour earned a first-round bye in the OHSAA Tournament. The Lancers then welcomed St. Vincent-St. Mary High School to Weber Stadium for a second-round matchup. Gilmour cruised to a 13-3 win over the Fighting Irish to advance to the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

In the win over SVSM, Gilmour broke out of the gates with a fury and claimed a 9-0 at the half after a dominating 25 minutes of play. The Lancers scored the first four goals of the second half to remove any hopes of a Fighting Irish comeback. SVSM finally got on the scoreboard in the closing stages of the game, but it was too little, too late.

Molly Boyle '21 and Sophia Garofalo '21 led the way for the Lancers in the victory. Boyle had four goals and an assist while Garofalo had a trio of goals and two helpers.

Rylyn Anderson '23 and Sadie Morley '23 both scored twice for GA. Alayna Toole '22 added a goal and two assists while Isabella Sprang '21 posted one goal and one assist.

Ziya Damas '23 and Madeline Boyle '23 combined for 10 saves in the win.

After the win over SVSM, the Lancers dropped their next game at Kenston High School 13-6. While the loss to Kenston was disappointing, it was a much more competitive game than the teams' first meeting this season in early April, an 18-4 win for the Bombers.

Although GA's season came to an end at Kenston, Gilmour still finished with 10 wins on the year, including victories over Beaumont School, Lake Catholic High School and Solon High School.
