Gretchen Burkey is in her second season as the Gilmour Academy varsity girls lacrosse head coach with the 2021-22 school year.

Burkey led the Lancers to 10 wins in her first season at the helm despite taking over the program immediately prior to the season. Seven of Gilmour’s ten wins came by at least 10 goals, including a playoff victory over St. Vincent-St. Mary. A pair of Lancers claimed all-region honors after the season while a total of five were named News Herald All-Stars.

Prior to Gilmour, Burkey was the JV head coach at Horizon High School in Thornton, Colo., during the interrupted 2020 season.

Burkey played in 66 of a possible 67 games during her four-year career at Wittenberg University, starting on 63 of those occasions. She tallied 30 points during her senior season (22g, 8a) while adding 45 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers.

A native of Wooster, Ohio, Burkey graduated from Wittenberg in 2019 with a degree in environmental science.
