Gilmour Cruises Past Cleveland Heights

The Gilmour Academy varsity girls soccer team posted a 1-1 record last week, tallying a convincing win at home and suffering a defeat to a local powerhouse on the road.

The Lancers opened the week with a 6-1 victory over Cleveland Heights High School at Weber Stadium.

Brooklyn Steiner '24 had a huge day offensively as she directly factored in five of the team's six goals, posting three goals and two assists.

Abby Minello '22 joined Steiner in producing a hat trick as she tallied three goals of her own.

Cleveland Heights actually jumped out to a 1-0 lead fewer than five minutes into the contest. It took Gilmour a little bit of time to find its footing, but the Lancers pounced as the first half wore on.

A Minello goal from Steiner, a Steiner goal assisted by Grace Madden '24 and a Steiner goal from Adeline Nemeth '24 gave GA a 3-1 lead at the half.

Minello scored twice in the opening eight minutes of the second half to effectively close out the win. Another Steiner goal, assisted by Nemeth, closed out the scoring for the match.

The win improved GA to 3-0-1 on its home turf this season.

Gilmour's second match of the week saw it travel to Walsh Jesuit High School, a team ranked among the top five in the state in Division I.

The Lancers played a strong first half to keep the game tied 0-0 at intermission. Gilmour actually had the best chance of the opening 40 minutes when a GA header redirected on goal from a free kick forced a fine diving stop by the Walsh goalkeeper.

Walsh broke through in the second half and would go on to claim a 4-1 victory. Minello provided a free kick goal for Gilmour.

The Lancers have three weeks remaining in the regular season and are scheduled to play two matches each week.
