Lancer Swimming Honors Senior Abby Meyer, Gets A Win Against West Geauga

The Lancers swimming program celebrated their senior athlete Abby Meyer '21 prior to their meet against West Geauga High School on Friday, January 15. Meyer, a four-year member of the program, was named First Team All-North Coast League, and was the team's "Coach's Award" honoree during her time as a Gilmour swimmer. An essential part of the program, Meyer has qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) DII State Finals for three consecutive seasons.

Coach John Tiernan has no doubt that Meyer will extend her state finals streak this year.

"Abby will be a four-year state qualifier. More importantly, Abby is a great teammate and friend. Abby is going to be truly missed by her teammates as well as by the coaching staff. We wish her all the best. We know that she will be a huge success in anything she chooses to do," said Tiernan.

After Coach Tiernan and the rest of the Lancers swimming community had the opportunity to honor Meyer, the boys and girls teams raced against West Geauga. The boys team defeated the Wolverines 91-69 in an exciting duel. Andrew Lewis '23 earned a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, and swam a personal best in the event with a time of 59.47. The girls team took the lead against West Geauga early and never looked back as they won 121-49. Meyer had individual first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (1:03.53) and the 100 breaststroke (1:15.50) on her Senior Day.

The Lancers next home meet will take place on Wednesday, January 27, as they host NDCL at 5 p.m. Members of Lancer Nation can watch all home meets at gilmour.org/live
