Gilmour Sweeps Orange, Competes at Viking Invite

The Gilmour Academy boys and girls swimming teams both competed in a pair of events this past week. Gilmour began the week by sweeping Orange in a dual meet inside Lancer Natatorium.

  • The GA boys posted a 59-32 win over Orange while the girls claimed a 97-68 victory
  • Andrew Lewis '23 won both the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke in the boys dual meet
  • Deaglan Bryant '23, Ian Colleran '24 and Alexander Figurella '22 also added individual event wins
  • Bryant, John Stack '23, Figurella and Lewis combined to win the 200 freestyle relay
  • Madeline Sammut '24 won both the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke in the girls dual meet
  • Anna Johannessen '25 and Kylee Radigan '22 also added individual event wins
  • Gilmour's girls team also won all three relays during the meet
  • Radigan, Sammut, Laina Collis '24 and Carys O'Haimhirgin '25 swam on the winning 200 medley relay
  • Stacy Barresi '24, Gianna Minotas '25, Claire Thielman '24 and Johannessen swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay
  • Collis, Sammut, Minotas and Radigan swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay

Over the weekend, the Lancers competed at the Viking Invitational, hosted by Saint Ignatius High School on the campus of Cleveland State University. The competitive meet features schools from all over the state as well as neighboring states.

  • Gilmour's girls team finished in eighth place, out of 20 schools, with 107 points
  • Radigan led GA by finishing seventh in the 200 IM and ninth in the 100 backstroke
  • Sammut took seventh in the 200 freestyle and 18th in the 100 breaststroke
  • Collis had the highest individual finish by a Lancer at the event, placing fifth in the 100 butterfly
  • Minotas finished 13th in the 100 backstroke in her first high school invitational
  • Radigan, Sammut, Collis and Minotas combined to finish fifth in the 200 medley relay
  • That same group, in a different order, also took fifth in the 400 freestyle relay
  • Gilmour's boys team finished in 16th place, of 23 teams, with 18 points
  • Lewis led GA by taking seventh in the 100 backstroke and 12th in the 500 freestyle
  • Lewis, Colleran, Figurella and Bryant placed 15th in the 200 medley relay
  • Lewis, Bryant Stack and Figurella took 16th in the 200 freestyle relay
  • Bryant and Figurella added top-25 individual finishes in the 50 free and 100 butterfly, respectively
