- The Gilmour Academy boys and girls swimming teams competed in the OHSAA Northeast District Championship this past weekend
- The meet was held at Cleveland State University's Robert F. Busbey Natatorium
- Gilmour's girls team placed fourth overall with 163 points
- The Lancer boys finished 10th, out of more than 30 teams, with 77 points
- As a result of their finishes at Districts, 12 Lancers are headed to the OHSAA State Championship
- On the girls side, Laina Collis '24, Kylee Radigan '22 and Madeline Sammut '24 all qualified for States in two individual events
- Collis was the District runner-up in the girls 100 freestyle, finishing in 52.43 seconds
- She also finished eighth in the 200 IM (2:10.28) to qualify for States in that event
- Radigan posted top-eight District finishes in the 50 free (24.47) and the 100 backstroke (59.64) to qualify for States in both events
- Sammut was sixth in both the 200 free (1:57.42) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.05), earning trips to States in both events
- Gianna Minotas '25, in her first high school season, qualified for States in the 100 backstroke by placing ninth at Districts in a personal best time (1:00.97)
- Collis, Minotas, Radigan and Sammut combined for top-four District finishes in a pair of relays
- As a result, Gilmour's girls will have their 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays competing at States
- Lacie Frech '23, Elena Hayek '23 and Anna Johannessen '25 will serve as relay alternates at the State meet for Gilmour
- Hayek had qualified for Districts in both the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle
- Johannessen had qualified for Districts in both the 200 freestytle and 500 freestyle and placed 10th in the latter event
- On the boys side, Andrew Lewis '23 led the way for Gilmour by qualifying for States in two individual events
- Lewis earned top-eight showings at Districts in both the 500 freestyle (4:56.33) and the 100 backstroke (53.38)
- Lewis' time of 53.38 seconds at Districts broke Gilmour's school record in the 100 backstroke
- Lewis also led off Gilmour's 200 medley relay that qualified for States
- Ian Colleran '24, Alexander Figurella '22 and Deaglan Bryant '23 swam the final three legs of the State-qualifying relay
- Colleran had qualified for Districts in the 100 breaststroke
- Figurella had qualified for Districts in both the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and placed ninth in the latter event
- Bryant had qualified for Districts in the 50 freestyle
- John Stack '23 will serve as the relay alternate at the State meet for GA's boys team
- Stack had qualified for Districts in both the 200 IM and 100 butterfly
- Veronica Khula '23 (100 breaststroke) and Carys O'Haimhirgin '25 (100 freestyle) also competed in the District meet for GA
- The OHSAA State Championship will begin Thursday, Feb. 24, with the preliminary round
- The finals session will be on Friday, Feb. 25, with the meet taking place at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio
