It was another great week for the Gilmour Academy Varsity A girls tennis team as it improved to 8-3 on the season with two significant 3-2 team victories.

The Lancers began the week going head-to-head with last season's North Coast League champion Beaumont, who, in 2019, handed the Lancers two defeats. This year played out differently as Gilmour edged the Blue Streaks 3-2. Great singles performances were recorded by Ava Moe '22Lizzy Frawley '23 and Madison Maynard '23, all in straight sets. In doubles action, after dropping the first set 6-1, Maya Moufawad '21 and Lauren Kastelic '22 came back to win the next two sets 6-0, 6-1.

Gilmour's second victory of the week came against a very tough Orange team that, according to head coach Cyndi Smith, was "certainly a nail biter."

With the team score tied at two, it came down to doubles partners Claire Jablonski '21 (pictured on left) and Hadley Hairston '21 (pictured on right). Fans saw a very dramatic third set 7-5 victory after flipping the first set win of 6-3 to a second set 6-3 loss.

"That match showed true grit from both of our players," said Smith.

The team effort was completed by super singles play from Maynard and a great doubles performance by Kastelic and Maggie Grunden '21 in a strong 6-4, 6-2 win.
