Lancers Conclude Season at Sectionals

The Gilmour Academy girls tennis team closed out its season this past week as the Lancers competed at an OHSAA Sectional Tournament held at Solon Community Park.

Ava Moe '22, playing in the singles tournament, and Grace Gainar '22 and Lauren Kastelic '22, playing in the doubles event, both won multiple matches to lead the Lancers.

The duo of Gainar and Kastelic advanced to the Sectional quarterfinals and came up one win shy of qualifying for this week's OHSAA District Tournament.

Gainar and Kastelic were in control for much of the way in their opening match as they claimed a 6-4, 6-4 victory over a duo from Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School.

Gainar and Kastelic then turned it up a notch in their second-round match. They defeated an Andrews Osborne Academy team via a 6-3, 6-0 decision.

The Lancers would come up short to a team from Perry High School, the eventual Sectional runners-up, in the quarterfinal round.

Gilmour's other doubles team consisted of Elizabeth Frawley '25 and Katherine Frawley '23. The Frawley sisters won their opening match 6-0, 6-0 over a pair from Jefferson Area High School. The duo would drop their second-round match to the team that went on to win the Sectional title.

Moe had the best performance of a Lancer singles player in the tournament.

After posting a 7-4 record during the regular season, Moe opened the postseason with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over an opponent from Thomas W. Harvey High School.

Moe then battled to a first-set victory before opening up breathing room in the second set of her second-round match. She claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win over an opponent from Hawken School. Moe's run would come to an end against an opponent from Orange High School who would go on to qualify for the District Tournament.

Isabella Martin '22 and Madison Maynard '23 both competed in the singles tournament as well.

Martin dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to an opponent from Beachwood High School in the first round while Maynard came up on the short end of a 7-5, 6-3 setback to an Andrews Osborne player in the second round.
