The Gilmour Academy girls track and field team had a perfect start to their season as they won each of the two meets they ran in during the opening week of the season.

The Lancers placed first in a tri-meet they hosted against Lutheran West High School and Orange High School in mid-week action. Gilmour then won the eight-team Ned Weingart Relays, hosted at Cleveland Heights High School, this past weekend. GA's winning score of 129 points was 12 clear of runner-up Hawken School.

Three Lancers won events at the Weingart Relays.

Mackenzie Palinski '21 dominated in the discus throw. Her winning mark of 119 feet, 11 inches was more than 36 feet clear of the runner-up in the event. Palinski also took second place in the shot put, posting a distance of 35 feet, 2 inches.

Karah Henderson '22 won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.04 seconds. She also took sixth in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 56.88 seconds.

Bella Lasecki '22 won the pole vault by clearing a height of 8 feet, 0 inches. She also ran the lead leg on Gilmour's 800 sprint medley relay squad that finished in sixth place in 2:06.28.

Gilmour had a second-place showing in each of the three longest running events at the meet.

Mary Lombardo '22 took second in the 800 meters (2:26.01), Amy Weybrecht '24 was the runner-up in the 1600 meters (5:18.33) and Clare Valenza '23 was second across the line in the 3200 meters (12:01.33). Mia Polisena '22, who was fifth place in the 800, and Anna Grossner '24, who took seventh place in the 3200, each scored for Gilmour in those events as well.

Gilmour's distance medley relay finished in second place in 13:12.47. The group consisted of Caitrina Barton '21, Lombardo, Polisena and Weybrecht. The Lancers took third place in the 4x400 meter relay as Mariyah Moore '24, Kaleigh McNamara '22, Lombardo and Weybrecht combined to finish in 4:13.78.

Edith Tomasek '23 added a pair of top-five individual finishes in the hurdle events. She was third in the 100 hurdles (18.56) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (56.84).

In the tri-meet earlier in the week, the Gilmour girls won all but two events in which they had an entry. Henderson swept the hurdle events while Palinski swept the throwing events to lead the way for the Lancers in their season-opening meet.
