Gilmour Girls Win Miele Invitational

The Gilmour Academy girls track and field team came away victorious at its annual home invitational this past weekend.

The Lancers won the 26th annual Miele Invitational by topping the field of nine teams. Gilmour's score of 176 points was more than 70 ahead of runner-up Brush High School.

Gilmour has won three of the four weekend invitationals it has contested this season. The win was also the second straight Miele victory for the Lancers as the program won the meet in 2019, the last year the event was held.

Gilmour won six of the eight individual running events at the meet as a pair of freshmen led the way. Mariyah Moore '24 and Amy Weybrecht '24 each won two individual events and also ran on the winning 4x400 meter relay.

Moore won the 100-meter dash in 13.07 seconds and came back to win the 200-meter dash in 27.16 seconds.

Weybrecht began her day by easily placing first in the mile as her winning time of 5:21.82 was nearly 10 seconds ahead of the field. She came back to win the 800-meter run by more than four seconds as she stopped the clock in 2:20.06.

A pair of Weybrecht's teammates added top-three finishes in each of those events. Mary Lombardo '22 was the runner-up in the 800 in 2:24.13 while Mia Polisena '22 placed third in the 1600 in 5:44.13.

Gilmour closed the meet in style by winning the 4x400 relay. Kaleigh McNamara '22, Moore, Lombardo and Weybrecht combined to cross the finish line in 4:04.95.

Karah Henderson '22 took top honors in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.64 seconds and was the runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles in 49.37 seconds. Edith Tomasek '23 took third and sixth place, respectively, in those events in 18.08 and 55.26 seconds.

Clare Valenza '23 cruised to a win in the longest individual race of the day, the 3200 meters. She finished in 11:51.28, more than 30 seconds ahead of the field.

Bella Lasecki '22 won the pole vault by clearing 9 feet, 0 inches.

Jayla Pleasant '22 was the runner-up in both the shot put (31 feet, 0 inches) and the discus (86 feet, 1 inch). McNamara added a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 1:03.02.

Gilmour took second place in the 4x800 meter relay in 10:25.54. Gia Rosko '24, Polisena, Anna Grossner '24 and Lombardo comprised the runner-up quartet.

Brinn MacLellan '21 (4 feet, 6 inches) and Jazminn Bremer '24 (4 feet, 3 inches) took third and fourth in the high jump, respectively.

The Lancers added additional points with fourth-place showings in both the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays. Lasecki and McNamara ran the lead legs in both relays.

In the 4x100, Stacy Barresi '24 and Kai Logan '22 ran the back half to help GA finish in 55.28 seconds. In the 4x200, Henderson and Moore finished off the race as the Lancers' time was 1:49.00.

Gilmour has two more meets on its schedule before the OHSAA postseason begins, the first of which will take place May 7 at Olmsted Falls High School.
