Randorf Named Gatorade Player of the Year Again

Gatorade Player of the Year Page | Gatorade's Official Announcement

Lancer volleyball standout Kathryn Randorf '22 continued to etch her name into Gilmour Academy lore as she was named the Gatorade Ohio Volleyball Player of the Year in an announcement by the organization Tuesday morning.

This is the second consecutive year in which Randorf earned this incredible distinction. In doing so, she becomes the first-ever athlete to be named Gatorade Ohio Volleyball Player of the Year on multiple occasions.

As one of the most prestigious awards in high school sports, the Gatorade Player of the Year honors the most elite high school student-athletes in 12 varsity sports for their athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character. When she earned the award last year, Randorf became the first Gatorade Ohio Volleyball Player of the Year ever selected from Gilmour Academy.

With her selection, Randorf now advances into consideration for the Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year honor, which will be announced later this month.

Randorf led the Lancers to their second straight OHSAA state championship this past fall as Gilmour won its final 14 matches of the season to finish with a 25-3 record.

With Gilmour battling against a pair of tough opponents in its two state tournament matches, Randorf was nothing short of sensational. In the state title match, her final one as a Lancer, she posted a match-high 33 kills, exactly half of the entire team's total, along with 17 digs and a match-high eight blocks. Randorf led GA on both ends in the state semifinal, producing match-high totals in kills (19), digs (20) and blocks (8).

Randorf compiled 459 kills, 298 digs, 106 blocks and 37 aces during her senior season. The three-time News Herald Player of the Year also tallied an incredible .430 hitting percentage for the season. Randorf concluded her Lancer career with a school-record 1,408 kills as well as 394 blocks.

Randorf is among an exclusive group to have won Gatorade State Player of the Year honors, a list that includes Elena Delle Donne, Derek Jeter, Peyton Manning and Abby Wambach.

Gatorade will give Randorf a trophy and a formal letter of congratulations while Gilmour will receive a banner to hang recognizing her achievement.
