Girls Cross Country Wins Big at District Championship

The Gilmour Academy girls cross country program won their 10th straight Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division III District Championship on Saturday, October 24, at Madison High School.

The first-place finish for the girls is especially noteworthy, as they faced tough competition in the field, including Maplewood High School, who is ranked No. 5 in Ohio at the Division III level.  The Lancers put together a masterful performance, as four members of the team raced to top eight finishes overall.

The girls were led by Amy Weybrecht '24, who placed second in 18:51.95, followed by Caitrina Barton '21 (third), Mary Lombardo '22 (fourth), and Gia Rosko '24 (eighth).  Mia Polisena '22 (15th), Anna Grossner '24 (26th), and Ava Moe '22 (30th) also had impressive finishes, which led to the team's victory.

Caitrina Barton's final time of 19:20.06 at Madison places her ninth on the all-time leader board for the girls cross country program.

With their win, the varsity team advances to the OHSAA Division III Regional Championship at Boardman High School on Saturday, October 31.
