Girls Cross Country Places Fifth in State, Lancers Receive All-Ohio Honors

The Lancers girls cross country team finished fifth at the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division III State Championship at Fortress Obetz on Saturday, November 7.

The championship race was especially significant for the girls team, as it was the 11th consecutive year that the team qualified for the state meet and the 16th appearance in program history. The Lancers were led by freshman standout Amy Weybrecht '24, who placed third at the state meet.  Weybrecht's race at Fortress Obetz was nothing short of historic, as her time of 18:30.9 equaled the best individual finish of any Lancer in school history at a state championship race. Her impressive run at the state meet also landed Weybrecht on the girls cross country record board, as she now holds the third-fastest race time in program history.

Senior Caitrina Barton '21 had a commanding performance as well, finishing 27th in the state, while Mary Lombardo '22 placed 41st and ended the season with a career-best race time of 19:56.6. Gia Rosko '24 followed in 66th place.  The scoring for the Lancers was rounded out by Anna Lisac '24 (115th place), Kaitlin Rulison '23 (125th place) and Mia Polisena '22 (141st place).

Adding to the Lancers' dominant performance at the state meet, Weybrecht and Barton earned All-Ohio honors. Barton, Lombardo, Polisena and Rulison were also recognized for their incredible efforts in the classroom, as they received Academic All-Ohio honors to close the 2020 season.
